Rope handling and climbing The practice of rope handling and climbing involves a certain amount of risk. The AlternativTour ensures that a high standard of secure equipment is maintained and safety measures are an integral part of our instruction. Participants' safety is paramount.
Climbing The sports activity with the objective of climbing an obstacle, natural or artificial, using the feet and the hands, using the appropriate technique and equipment. Rappel /Abseiling
The technique used for descending steep rock using a fixed rope and equipment that enables speed control and safety. It is important to ensure that the rope reaches the ground and that the fastening is safe. The right hand controls the speed of descent and the left is for balance. Slide
The technique used for descending a sloping steel cable with the use of appropriate pulley, snap hook and harness. The stopping point is monitored by an instructor. Tyrolese crossing Horizontal crossing from one point to another on the same level. Utilizing two ropes: a main one and another for safety. Parallel Rope Bridge
Horizontal crossing using two parallel ropes in the vertical for support and a third at a higher level for safety. Himalayan Bridge
Horizontal crossing characterized by a system of three ropes forming a "V" shape; the lower rope supports the feet and is linked to the ones above for hand support. A third rope at a higher level ensures safety. Handrail Use of a safety rope with regular fastenings to enable moving along narrow ledges. On Fóia's north slope a series of rocks can be found that allow for varying levels of difficulty, ranging from low to average/high. Ideal for climbing, rappelling/abseiling and sliding: all of which complement our other activities on offer.
